How do my tenants apply for the "free weatherization" program (and what is it)?
As part of our efforts to provide valuable resources to our customers, we regularly share information that we have researched that can be of use to landlords and property managers. This week we are featuring information that may be of value to your tenants (and therefore may be beneficial to you as well).
Question: How do my tenants apply for the free weatherization program (and what is it)?
Answer:
The “weatherization program” is a free program offered by Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW). Tenants can apply to have the interior of the house “weatherized” which means PGW will add insulation and other energy-saving resources to the property, for free.
Tenants need to initiate this program and can sign up for this via PGW (by calling or completing the attached application)
Below is an example of a letter that a landlord customer sends to all of their tenants about the program.
----------------------
Dear Tenant,
Last years' winter taught us that when it's cold, it's expensive to heat the house. PGW has a program that can help you cut your heating bills. The program is called the Weatherization Project/Customer Responsibility Program. It is a free service available to many Philadelphia residents to help you reduce your bills.
Please call PGW, 215 235 1000 and select option #4 for the Customer Responsibility Program. Request an application using the touch-tone service and PGW will send you the application. Alternatively, complete the attached application and send it to PGW.
By doing so, you can obtain an appointment to have PGW come out to the house to install insulation, new thermostats and assist you with money-saving tips.
Its best to do this is now as they are generally very busy and the waiting list is sometimes a few months long. Link to PGW: www.pgworks.com
