Lead Law FAQ: Late Renewal of my Rental License (Grace Period & Late Fee)

We are regularly receiving questions regarding the new Lead Law and have created a weekly “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQ’s) forum for you as you desire to become more informed of the Lead Law and its complexity.

This week we are featuring a common question:

Question:  What is the penalty if I am late to renew my rental license (and what is the grace period)?

Answer: The grace period is 30 days and the penalty is 1.5%.  So for a $65 rental license fee, the penalty is minimal.

Many (nearly 80% of rental licenses) are due on February 28th.  As such, you have 30 days to renew it and after 30 days so there is no cause for alarm if you are slightly late.  And just a reminder (so you are not late for your rental license renewal), the next set of ZIP code implementation is upon us per below:

The following are the next set of ZIP codes (Phase 4) that are due starting April 1, 2022 (through September 30, 2022)

19103             19106             19111             19114             19115             19116             19123             19136             19147             19149             19150             19152             19154
